Tonight we fed three bachelor-ish guys. They all work for DC and have moved out here a couple of weeks after us, which means that we are eons ahead of them in certain ways. We fed them hamburgers and brats (boiled in beer; thank you Katy G!) homemade potato salad, and onions, lettuce and tomatoes. Dessert was from the Farmer's market: strawberries ready to turn ten hours after I bought them, gorgeous green grapes, and chocolate and spiced strawberry sorbets.
It was the first bit of entertaining that we did out here. Luckily, it was boys, so I spent five minutes Windexing the bathrooms and I was done.
Oscar left at 2:30 for a playdate/sleepover. In NJ, Oscar had friends who I would have given my life for. If you are reading this, you can count yourself and your kids among that number. Oscar has hit it off with a sweetie pie, C, who moved to the school in the middle of last year. We were lucky to be behind him and his folks in line on the first day of school. C was thrilled that he found someone that could be his BEST FRIEND. Oscar was thrilled as well. Luckily the boys have hit it off and C's mom is awesome. She texted me early this week about having Oscar over for a sleepover. Then it turned into a full day -- going to a Burbank High football game to see C's sister cheer -- and then the sleepover. So here I am -- I handed off my little boy at 2:30, talked to him briefly on the phone at 8 (C's mom made ravioli, why should he talk to me?) and now its 11pm and I miss my little boy. This is a taste of the future, right?
I'm not entirely sure that I like it.
Change can be difficult-- K is giving me all sorts of trouble. I think all the hormonal stuff is starting. :-(
