This is a post I started over a month ago. I'm going to finish it up tonight and tackle the mounds of photos and updates I need to do this weekend.
It's been a little too cold to go to the beach lately. Also, I think Evan is kind of stressed out at the beach. Poor Evan is stressed out everywhere. Since I am with the kids all the time, I know that I can pretty much ignore them and they will mostly stay alive.
My friend Michela told us about a state park about 75 miles away that has high enough for snow. A couple Sundays ago, we decided to make the trip. We packed up some snacks and a couple coupons for local fast food joints.
We chatted for 30 minutes in the car (99% of conversation: Me: "Wow! Look at those mountains!" Them: "Mama, can we have electronics now?") And then we let them have electronics and Evan and I marveled at the mountains. Seriously, every five miles brought about a new kind of mountain. Like a pyramid, like a graceful mound, like a rocky hill.
Finally we got to the state park, and drove up and up and up. We took Evan's folks' handmedown Lexus and enjoyed watching the temperature drop from 60 degrees to 30 degrees.
drove way way up a mountain and found a place to pull over and park. Evan was driving and found that after almost two years of driving without icy roads his skills remained.
We parked precariously and took off for the sledding hill.
The Goose was only momentarily entertained.
My stalwart sweetie.
My darling, raised-in-New-Jersey girl. "It's COLD! I don't LIKE it HERE!"
She made a couple of attempts...
But no dice.
There were snowballs.
There were shelters made.
And transferred.
Sometimes certain people got pissy with Mama for taking pictures.
It was a lovely day in lovely country.
