Summer 2013 part 3

Back to normal life.
That means organic heirloom tomatoes for $2.50 a pound at the Burbank Farmer's Market.

We went to the Pasadena Arclight to see Monsters University.  We generally reserve the Arclight for grown-up movies but we splurged, since it was Oscar's birthday.

Oscar was thrilled to pose in front of the Man of Steel suit.

Oscar had a lovely birthday sleepover with his friend a couple weeks later. How is it that he is TEN YEARS OLD?

For the week-and-a-half we were home between NY and Seattle, the boys returned to our beloved camp up in the mountains.

The boys walked all the way down the mountain so they could do some climbing on this structure. They are both born scramblers.

Oscar makes himself comfy in his room.

Our super beloved teacher Laura, from Playhouse. Arlo's favorite human being in the world, has a sister here in CA. Laura regaled me with tales of her lovely sister and her family and kids when I was moping about moving to LA, and you know what happened? We moved to LA, everything was OK, and Laura's sister Susan ended up being a great friend and gigantically fabulous resource for moving to LA with a family.

And then Susan called me up and said that Laura's coming for a visit. Would we like to join them at the beach? AND HOW.

Laura was Arlo's best most special teacher that he will remember for the rest of his life, and The Goose had her and loved her too. Oscar visited that classroom about a million times (it was the classroom where Lisa handed him the phone where I told him he had a baby sister) so he loved her as well.

I don't know how I got so lucky to have such wonderful people around. First, Teacher Laura, and then through her and another mutual friend, Susan. I am a lucky, lucky girl.

Oscar is plotting put his Five Card Nancy.

Summer in SoCal means Popsicles on the porch. NOT in my house.

We made a weekend visit to the Skirball. First, off to Noah's Ark.

We happened upon a Mariachi concert outside. I love me some Mariachi. This was the master group from the Charter High School that trains future Mariachi groups.

Oscar shares my love of Mariachi and funny hats.

The Goose gets down with the funny hats as well.

The Gary Baseman exhibit  was amazing, and brought me back to my days of making artist's books and exhibitions. The kids really dug it too.

In other news, I got old.

We checked out our new Verdugo pool.

Oscar and Arlo passed the deep-water test and braved the high dive.

There's my brave Arlo.

And there he goes.  Check out The Goose worshiping him on the deck.

Oscar making the leap.

My darling girls Joellyn and Katy came over for some dinner. Former DC cohort and current buddy Dave came too.

Me and my girls.

Me and my girls, outside. Joellyn and Katy were both in our wedding, and continue to be so important in my life. I am so grateful for our friendship.
