I will not allow some talking heads degrade an art form I have been proud to be part of for nearly half my life.

I grew up in Upstate New York. I had childhood friends who came thisclose to being on the Olympic Shooting Team. I learned how to shoot a gun at Girl Scout camp. I shot a woodchuck that had been decimating my dad's garden after my dad couldn't hit the poor thing. When my kids are older, I will take them to a range and teach them how to shoot and to have a healthy respect for guns.

Guns are not a bad thing. Huge automatic military rifles that shoot ten bullets at once are a problem. There is no reason for a citizen to own one of those.

It's time for our leaders to grow a pair (sorry, Mom) and reinstate the ban on assault weapons. And then we'll have some real heroes to look up to.
